CEMENTUM Factory: The First Industrial Site Certified Under the “Clever” System

The dry construction mix plant in Voskresensk, Moscow Region, managed by CEMENTUM (formerly Holcim), has achieved the “Silver” target level in the “Clever” building assessment and certification system for new construction. Initially, the plant’s strategy was developed under the international LEED certification system but was later adapted to meet the “Clever” methodology requirements. Project solutions initially crafted for LEED certification were partially retained and implemented under Clever’s alternative achievement paths.

Key Solutions and Project Outcomes

A significant achievement of the project is the improvement of internal management systems to align with ESG practices and reduce the overall environmental impact through resource conservation and waste management.

Some of the implemented project solutions include:

  • 100% reduction in water use for landscaping by selecting native plants; a drought-resistant grass mix was chosen for the lawn.
  • Life cycle assessment of the project and selection of low-carbon materials to reduce environmental impact, resulting in a 43.3% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to baseline.
  • Use of locally sourced materials: 100% of construction materials were sourced from domestic regional suppliers.
  • Workplace ergonomics were carefully planned to ensure employee comfort.
  • Thermal comfort assessment was conducted to allow employees to control their environment.
  • Creation of a safe and inclusive pedestrian environment around the site.
  • Responsible construction practices: compliance with Clever standards for construction site management, work culture, and environmental protection.

Clever “Silver” Certification

Adopting best practices and implementing green standards and methodologies in the design and construction of new projects helps optimize energy consumption, reduce operational costs, and improve building user conditions. For industrial sites, sustainable construction practices help reduce environmental impact, streamline resource use, and ensure favorable working conditions, creating environmentally safe and economically viable infrastructure.
